Potamon Lake in Amari

The Potamon lake is located in a verdant valley at Amari, 25 kilometers southeast of Rethymno. The Amari rivers dam construction in 2009 has formed this beautiful lake with a water capacity of 23 million cubic meters today.

The Potamon lake is expected to become one of the most important wetlands in the southeast Mediterranean. Already, many bird and animal species are beginning to inhabit the region. Many travelers in the wider area visit the lake to admire the amazing scenery!
